Who we are and Group PolicyThe Bourne Council on Aging requires that all cyclists taking part in this activity wear a helmet and obey Massachusetts Bicycle LawBay Area Senior Cyclists is a group of seniors or near senior men and women who seek a social situation combined with moderate exercise on a regular schedule. BASC meets every Wednesday morning to bike during April through November and to hike during December through March. They start out from the scheduled meeting/parking places, for the ride or the hike, at 10:00am sharp. The activities start from a variety of sites in the Greater Cape Cod Bay area. Each ride and walk is approximately two hours. Any senior may join. There are no dues. Guest bikers and hikers are welcome.
Members are encouraged to lead a bike ride or a hike. Members intending to be a leader should attend scheduling meetings. If it is not possible to attend a scheduling meeting, members should arrange for someone else to speak for them.
Membership is limited to a maximum of 50 addresses on the roster. If there are no openings when membership requests are received, a postcard will inform the sender that the request has been filed and the name placed on a waiting list. Openings will be filled in the order in which the request is received. Each time a roster is prepared, it may be necessary for current members, depending on their attendance records for the previous year, to be removed from the roster to make room for potentially active new members. Removed members will be informed by a postcard and will have their membership placed on hold until they decide to become active again. When they again become active, they will be placed on the waiting list.
For information on joining or being a guest, contact the Bourne Council on Aging at the Bourne Senior Center, 239 Main Street, Buzzards Bay, MA 02532 or at 508-759-0653.
