The Friends of Bourne Council on Aging, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) non profit organization which was formed in 1979 to enhance the services and programs of the Council on Aging. Through fundraising, membership dues and donation, the Friends is instrumental in the continued success and expansion of the Council on Aging.

The Friends organization is governed by a 13 member Board of Directors, who are elected for two year terms at the annual meeting held in June. Directors are all volunteers who are involved in the community and have a true sense of the senior community. Board Meetings are held at the Senior Center on the third Thursday of each month at 1:00PM and are open to all Friends members. Minutes of each meeting are available at the request of any member.

Each year, the Friends conducts a membership drive and fundraising events. The Holiday Fair, held each year in November, is the principal fundraising event of the Friends. During the year, volunteer groups at the Senior Center, including Crafters, Knitters and Quilters, work to create items for the Fair. By keeping the Fair "in house" all profits benefit senior programs and the Bourne Friends Food Pantry.

The financial support of the Friends organization is responsible for all or part of many programs, including "Bridging The Years" Supportive Adult Day Program, the publication of the monthly Newsletter, the Bourne Friends Food Pantry, The Friends Community Cafe, social trips and other senior programs at the Senior Center.

Membership in the Friends is open to all ages. Annual dues are $10.00 per person for Bourne residents and $15.00 per person for non-residents. All members are sent a copy of the Friends Newsletter on a monthly basis. Anyone wishing to join may do so by contacting the Bourne Senior Center at 508-759-0653 or by sending their name, address and annual dues to the Friends of Bourne Council on Aging, P. O. Box 144, Buzzards Bay, MA 02532.
