Nutrition Program

The availability of state-of-the-art kitchen and dining facilities at the Bourne Community Building, as well as staff members who are trained and certified in food handling, allows the Senior Center to offer luncheon meals that provide seniors with hot, nutritionally balanced meals in a relaxed and comfortable social setting. Programs at the Senior Center are structured so that seniors may enjoy lunch and stay for afternoon activities.

The Senior Center is the location of a congregate meal site and is a "Meals on Wheels" distribution point. Both programs are sponsored by Elder Services of Cape Cod and the Islands Senior Nutrition Program, which is funded through the Federal Older Americans Act, State and local funding. A donation of $2.00 is suggested for each meal. Neither program is means tested.

On Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, Elder Services provides seniors with hot, nutritional meals, as well as the opportunity for socialization and companionship. Meals are available to all individuals who are 60 years of age and older. The cost of these meals is partially offset by a suggested donation of $2.00 per person. Meals are served at approximately 11:30 am. Reservations are required for meals and must be made 24 hours ahead of time by calling 508-759-8591. Transportation is available on Wednesdays via the Council on Aging bus, provided that reservations have been made in advance by calling 508-759-0653.

Lunch is served at The Friends Community Cafe on Mondays and Tuesdays. The Cafe is open to the public with no age restrictions. The price is $6.00 for Friends and $6.50 for Guests. The cost includes beverage and tax. Lunches are prepared by Chef Joyce Michaud. The main lunch entré will vary from day to day and week to week and will be served at Noon. Reservations are required and must be made by the Friday before the lunch date by calling the Bourne Senior Center at 508-759-0653.
