Transportation

The Bourne Council on Aging offers transportation services to the seniors of the Town of Bourne, as well as persons with disabilities who also reside in the Town. The area of service is Bourne, Falmouth, Plymouth, Wareham, Mashpee, Sandwich and Hyannis (subject to the availability of a driver).

image of wheel chair vanTransportation is offered via bus and volunteer drivers. The buses are disability accessible by the use of a hydraulic lift ramp. Volunteer drivers are available, on a limited basis, if the bus is unable to accommodate the individual. The use of volunteer drivers is limited to medical appointments.

All transportation is by appointment only.

Reservations must be made at least 48 hours in advance by calling the Senior Center at 508-759-0653. The Senior Center must be advised of any changes or cancellations of appointments. After hours, messages can be left on the office answering machine. Reservations can be made up to three (3) months in advance.

The Bourne Council on Aging reserves the right to require a personal caregiver to accompany an individual. Participants riding the van must be fully capable of getting on & off the van with only minimal assistance from the driver. Please note that our drivers are not allowed to attend medical appointments with clients, this is the responsibility of the client, family member or caregiver.

Priority transportation is given to medical appointments, (doctor visits, lab work, etc.), and transportation to Tobey, Falmouth, Jordan and Cape Cod Hospitals. However, the bus cannot commit to extended physical therapy appointments.

Hospital transport includes medical appointments and outpatient drop off only. Transportation WILL NOT be provided for any person who has been under local or any other form of anesthesia, or any person who may need medical assistance during transport.

Transportation services are available Monday through Thursday, from 8:00am, until 4:00pm, excluding holidays. We request that appointment times be no earlier than 8:30am, and no later than 2:00pm, in order to assure a timely return trip.

Transportation is also made available for weekly shopping trips to local shopping centers, and planned monthly trips to area shopping malls. On shopping trips, passengers are limited to four (4) bags per trip, which follows industry standards for safety and due to space restrictions. Based on availability, transportation is offered to Bourne Senior Center activities, nursing home visitations (excluding patient transportation), pharmacy, local hairdresser appointments, voting, post office, banking, Town offices and the library. Pharmacy transportation is provided for individuals - COA staff does not pick up or deliver any medications.
