The Bourne Council on Aging offers transportation services to the seniors of the Town of Bourne, as well as persons with disabilities who also reside in the Town. The area service is Bourne, Falmouth, Plymouth, Wareham, Mashpee, Sandwich and Hyannis (by appointment only).
Transportation is offered via mini-bus, van and volunteer drivers. The minibus and van are disability accessible by the use of a hydraulic lift ramp. Volunteer drivers are available, on a limited basis, if the bus or van is unable to accommodate the individual. The use of volunteer drivers is limited to medical appointments. The Bourne Council on Aging reserves the right to require a personal caregiver to accompany an individual.
Priority transportation is given to medical appointments, (doctor visits, lab work, physical therapy, etc.), and transportation to Tobey, Falmouth, Jordan and Cape Cod Hospitals. Hospital transportation does not include transport of any person who has been under local or any other form of anesthesia, or any person who may need medical assistance during transport.
Transportation is also made available for weekly shopping trips to local shopping centers, and planned monthly trips to area shopping malls. Based on availability, transportation may also be offered in other situations, including: Bourne Senior Center activities, nursing home visitations (excluding patient transportation), local hairdresser appointments, voting, post office, banking, Town offices and the library.
Transportation services are available Monday through Friday, from 8:30am, until 4:30pm, excluding holidays. We request that appointment times be no earlier than 8:30am, and no later than 2:00pm, in order to assure a timely return trip.
Reservations can be made up to three (3) months in advance.
The Bourne Council on Aging is able to offer the above services free of charge through the kindness of the Friends of the Bourne Council on Aging. However, donations are always appreciated and gratefully accepted. Donation envelopes are available from the bus driver or checks, payable to the Friends of the Bourne Council on Aging, may be sent to the Bourne Senior Center, 239 Main Street, Buzzards Bay, MA 02532.
